Questions
Fence estimate questions
The price is not on this page. Answer a few questions in the estimate and tell us where to send it.
How does an instant estimate work?
The steps are address, fence, style, budget, then contact. Answer a few quick questions, tell us where to send it, and see your price right away. The price shows on the next screen, and we email you a copy.
Is the number a final contract price?
It's an estimated price based on vetted contractors in your area. The matched contractor confirms footage, the property line, and site conditions on the visit before anyone treats it as the job price. The price for the line you drew stays put.
How long does a typical fence take to build?
Most residential runs in this market are a one- to three-day build once materials are on site and the city or HOA has cleared the plan. Weather, gates, and haul-away can stretch that.
What warranty comes with each budget tier?
These crews are carefully vetted for quality work and craftsmanship, but they use cheaper materials that don't carry a warranty and they won't warranty the work either. The product is good for an under 10 year timeline. Everyone still carries the necessary insurance and any license their city requires. Contractors at this tier may not accept credit cards or offer financing. $$ is a working warranty and a company that follows up. $$$ is full warranty, higher-grade material, and a crew that stays with the job after the last post.
Are the crews licensed and insured?
Every crew FenceOwl matches is vetted and insured. Contractors are licensed where the city requires it. FenceOwl support stays available 24/7 until the project is finished.
Who are your contractors?
We only work with family-owned American companies. We believe they offer the best service at the best prices. Family-owned means majority owned and operated by one family. American-owned means majority owned by U.S. citizens or permanent residents and based in the U.S. Every crew is also vetted and insured. Ownership proof is kept on file.
How do HOA rules and permits fit in?
The estimate asks whether you are in an HOA and whether the fence is already approved. Your city and your HOA still have the last word.
Can I finance the fence?
Most of our contractors above the bottom budget tier offer financing for new fences.
Which fence styles can I price?
Styles include cedar dog-ear privacy, craftsman cedar, wood picket, vinyl privacy, vinyl semi-privacy, composite (Trex and similar, on the higher budgets), ornamental aluminum, iron (ornamental), split rail, chain link, and a custom description. Cedar dog-ear is the standard option. Craftsman cedar is the upgraded privacy style, on the higher budgets. Chain link opens galvanized, on $ and $$, and black vinyl-coated, on $$ and $$$. Those styles include 4 ft, 5 ft, and 6 ft, except split rail. Split rail is an open wood post-and-rail fence for acreage and property lines, about 4 ft as 2-rail or 3-rail, with optional wire mesh and the same walk and drive gates as the other styles.
Who checks the property line and the utilities?
The quote tells the contractor to confirm the property line, if possible, and to request 811 utility locates before anyone digs.
